Ok, so we admit we’re not as impressed of women dressed in menswear today (although it’s very sexy). However, Amelia Earhart was a pioneer of the 1920s in her uniforms and huge dedication with female pilots.
Her flight certificate says 1922. Her world record said 4200 meters. Her first plane was named ”The Canary”, a bold yellow plane with open cocpit. She was the first woman to fly Solo across the Atlantic Ocean and the first woman to attempt a round-the-world flight. A few of her stops were in Miami (US), Natal (Brazil), Saint Louis (Senegal), Assab (Etiopia), Karachi (Pakistan), Bangkok (Thailand) and Bandung (Indonesia). Her flights were first page news in Magazines world-wide. During her round-the-world-flights in 1937 she, her plane and navigator disappeared into thin air.
Her impact on women – and fashion – however, hasn’t. Revived by Hermés as well as Burberry Prorsum the disappearance of Amelia Earhart did not kill her inspiring life and image. The Aviator jacket has been the perfect autumn jacket for three seasons in a row. The narrow trousers and leather jackets, aviator hats and goggles, bomber jackets and leather details that Earhart made so popular during the late 20s are still very much a Fashionista’s go-to when seeking empowerment through her outfit.
